Some people may not experience any symptoms for several years after being infected.

Signs & Symptoms of HIV

Early symptoms of HIV may include:

  4. Sore throat
  5. Swollen lymph nodes
  6. Headache
  7. Muscle and joint pain
  8. Night sweats

As the virus progresses and the immune system weakens, more severe symptoms may develop, including:

  1. Chronic diarrhea
  2. Weight loss
  3. Persistent fever
  4. Shortness of breath
  5. Recurring infections
  6. Memory loss or confusion
  7. Difficulty concentrating or focusing
  8. Oral thrush (white patches in the mouth)

It’s important to note that many of these symptoms can also be caused by other medical conditions, so a diagnosis of HIV can only be confirmed through testing. If you think you may have been exposed to HIV, it’s important to get tested as soon as possible. Early diagnosis and treatment can help manage the virus and prevent complications.

Causes of HIV

The transmission of HIV can be averted! There are practices to evade, or reduce, interaction with body fluids that transmit HIV. HIV is transmitted from one person to another in the following ways:

✦From an infested mother to her baby at the time of pregnancy, birth, or breastfeeding

✦Wound caused by infested needle stick

✦Infested blood transfusion

✦Sharing food with an infected person

✦ Man-to-man sexual interaction

✦ Man-to-woman sexual interaction

✦Interaction between injuries, blood or body fluids

✦Give-and-take of blood while kissing an infected person having bleeding gums
