prescription writing

By Dr. Yuvraj Arora Monga

‘I know it will hurt you, but it is true dear doctor. But, if you believe in yourself, your treatment process and Ayurveda- the ancient science of wisdom, you should write prescription for each and every patient who visits you.’

Writing a medical prescription is an important part of treatment that is equally imperative as right treatment is, and should not be ignored by any ayurvedic practitioner. Writing a medical prescription exhibits your alertness and proves your authenticity. It makes you more dependable and reliable than a practitioner who doesn’t write a prescription; it clearly means that you are friendlier to patient.

The medical prescription (today it can be in digital form) is a document that provides first hand information to any medical practitioner; that guides an attendant and that is a medical/health note for a patient. Clearly, it brings coordination between three – doctor, attendant and patient. Besides this, it instructs pharmacist. It also includes the legal obligation.

Ayurvedic treatment consider factors like Prakruti (basic constitution) of patient, Desha, Dhushya, Bala, Kala, Vaya, Ahara and Vihara, which are essential and are to be mentioned in prescriptions. In the end, a prescription clearly shows medications, instructions, dietary regulations and lifestyle modifications.
